Sophistication and Style

Helen Petrou hopes to inspire fashionistas with stunning pieces from her boutique, Jaimee H in Meyersdal Mall. Get It had a peek at what she has to offer.

Why did you decide to open a boutique?

“Due to my personal difficulty in finding quality, affordable and different clothing, I decided to travel to Bangkok, Singapore, Portugal, Milan, New York and Turkey to study fashion trends and quality. I then started going to Milan, Turkey and New York where I purchased clothing and sold them to small boutiques. Three years later I decided to open my first boutique in Meyersdal Mall, Jaimee H,” said Helena.  “Jaimee H recognises that clothing choice is dominated by personality and lifestyle. Jaimee H is for the bold, yet feminine, the funky, but stylish, prim and preppy, the glamour princess and the confidant woman, who walks on the sophisticated side. Put simply, Jaimee H is a personally tailored shopping experience.”

What can we expect to see at your boutique?

Clients are offered a unique shopping experience. The boutique stocks trendy, casual, corporate, formal, evening, cocktail, debutant and smart wear, also sexy, sophisticated, stylish exclusive designer wear, at affordable prices. Beautiful tailored pants, leggings and jeans and the most gorgeous formal three-piece suits are also available. Treat yourself to some costume jewellery, a silk scarf, a cashmere Pashmina, a leather handbag or leather belt. They really are all exquisite. Leather sandals and boots from Portugal are expected soon.  This is really a personalised shopping experience and the client may book a private appointment to view and purchase clothing or may request a particular item of clothing to be purchased and I will strive to shop and purchase the item for you. Sizes stocked are from XS to XXXL (SA 26 to SA 50).

Tell us more about your experience sourcing clothing from overseas

Some 70% of our clothes come from Turkey due to the fact that they offer bigger sizes that are more suitable to the South African market.  Soon we’ll also start importing fabrics and design our own exclusive range, which will be called Jaimee H.

Which is your favourite fashion capital?

There is no doubt that I love shopping, but one of my best shopping experiences in terms of fashion is Istanbul.  They have a wide variety and cater from the young and trendy to the more discerning client that is looking for something that is timeless.  Of course I love New York, but often find that they are limited to a very young market.

What are the trends for Spring 2013?

This season you’ll expect to find lots of colour in the shops.  Green, blue, coral and mint is still very fashionable and you’ll see a bit of neon, but not as much as last season.  News flash: catsuits are in fashion again.

What style tips can you offer?

I don’t believe in a lot of fashion tips, but I think it is important to have a basic wardrobe, which you can then diversify as trends come and go.  When buying new clothes especially dresses, always make sure that it fits properly.  If you feel that it is too tight rather get a size bigger.  An outfit always looks better with the perfect pair of shoes, a stylish handbag or perhaps a nice scarf.

Tell us about your wardrobe

I must admit that I am a bit of an eccentric dresser, yet I also have sophisticated and trendy items in my wardrobe.  I am not stuck on one particular style or look, but rather incorporate the trends to fit my personal style.

Away from the boutique

I like to just chill on weekends especially because I am working long hours during the week.  I enjoy going out for a quiet dinner but most often you’ll find me relaxing at my Fourways home.
